Prayer Strategy

Why is it important that we have a strategic and coordinated Prayer Strategy for our place, which is tied into God’s vision of and for our towns and cities?

There is a danger that our prayers for our place can be driven by the latest news, whether from online sources, the local paper, or word of mouth, so they become reactive rather than visionary. Often, the issues we pray about are symptoms of deeper problems. We can end up chasing symptoms rather than tackling root causes, which means we may not see much lasting change in the direction our place is heading.

We need to ask ourselves this question:
Are our prayers just reactionary, or are they helping to set the agenda of change and shape the direction of travel for our place?

Our prayers can bring light into our communities and help build a purposeful, God-given future.
In the Bible, God says, “I know the plans I have for you.” He has plans and a vision for your place, and our prayers need to reflect His heart.

The Gather Movement Hexagon Tool

This simple yet powerful tool helps you assess the key foundations that shape unity movements across towns and cities. It’s designed to highlight what’s going well, where fresh attention is needed, and how to move forward together with clarity and purpose.

Each of the six areas—Collaboration, Christians in the Spheres, Organisation, Prayer, Strategy, and Relationships—plays a vital role in city transformation. By reflecting on each, you’ll be able to celebrate strengths, uncover gaps, and agree on practical next steps.

Start by rating each foundation individually, using the scale provided:
0 – Nothing | 1 – Under Developed | 2 – Developing | 3 – Established | 4 – Strong | 5 – Flourishing

This tool isn’t about perfection, it’s about shared insight, honest reflection, and shaping meaningful conversations that move your town or city forward in unity and Kingdom impact.

1414 Planning Tool

DISCERNING & IMPLEMENTING GOD’S LONG-TERM PLAN FOR YOUR CITY

“A goal without a plan is just a wish.”

— Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

The 1414 Planning Tool builds on the Gather Movement Hexagon to help discern vision and create practical steps to see that vision become reality. It has been used by unity groups in the USA, across Australia, and by Kairos Connexion in Liverpool, particularly around gospel saturation.

Back in 1962, during the space race, President John F. Kennedy famously said,
“I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.”

What seemed impossible became reality. How? By breaking down the vision into clear, actionable steps. They understood that missing certain targets within certain timeframes would mean missing the vision entirely. The 1414 tool helps us take a similar approach in our own towns and cities.

Proverbs reminds us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish” (Proverbs 29:18).
As we gather across our cities and towns, it’s vital to seek what God is calling us to pursue and then begin working together toward that reality. The 1414 tool helps bring clarity and direction.

The 1414 Tool Helps You Define:

1 BIG VISION (5–10 YEARS)

“Together our big vision is to see ____________________ in our city.”

4 PRIORITIES (3 YEARS)

“The four most important emphases, in order to achieve the big vision for our city, are ____________________.”

1 OBJECTIVE (1 YEAR)

“Our measurable objective that will make a significant step towards the big vision becoming a reality is ____________________.”

4 GOALS (90 DAYS)

“The four concrete, specific actions that need to happen in the next 90 days to achieve the objective are: ____________________
These people are responsible for getting them done: ____________________.”
